BA(Hons) Product Design students at Central Saint Martins were given a brief to 'design a piece of furniture or a product that Arthur Liberty would be thrilled to commission were he alive today'. To understand the task, detailed Arts and Crafts research was undertaken and then key principles were translated to the modern day. Materiality and eclecticism were two issues the students thought would be important to explore. Through sketch exploration and material experimentation concepts were formed. They were then analysed to see which ones boasted the strongest connection to the Liberty brand. Further development and technical research helped to bring the concepts to realisation. This showcase illustrates a snapshot of the processes undergone throughout this project.
